There are two sound reasons why I think ‘Baywatch’ turned out to be a commercial success. Not that I think Priyanka Chopra didn’t make a gorgeous villain, because looking gorgeous is definitely not the problem with this (possible) franchise, but what the sequel probably needs is a “great” villain. The sequel might have to switch that up, and most definitely, the villain as well. The film also puts on display a characteristic raunchy, adult humour, one that was straightaway dismissed as “stale and uninspired” and had few takers with the audience as well.
The producer, Beau Flynn even announced that they had managed to put together an “amazing” story, and would see the entire cast travel overseas for a similar adventure, while the first one dealt with the misadventures of Florida lifeguards headed by Mitch Buchannon and their attempts to bring down a drug lord. Obviously, the first reports that flowed in as soon as ‘ Baywatch’ brought in a respectable sum of money was that a sequel had been greenlit. Read on to find out everything we know of a possible ‘Baywatch’ sequel. Conversely, it may as well, because, well, Hollywood. So, while we are not explicitly ruling it out, there are chances that it may not happen. There was apparently a working script too to take things forward, but that too has become increasingly scarce in mentions, the reasons for which we examine in the upcoming sections.

The film, however, did little to add to the legacy of 80s TV shows being converted to movies, and failed to follow ’21 Jump Street’ into the hall of fame. However, the film did manage to bring in $177 Million on a modest investment of roughly $65 Million, thus warranting a sequel, which was almost immediately greenlit, but chatter around it died out soon enough.
